THE ESSENTIAL DRINK

This a review on the recently released Malayalam movie ‘Vellam’. It was the first theatrical release in Mollywood, post lockdown. The movie featuring Jayasurya in lead role, is a mixture of fiction and true events. The movie tells the story of Murali Kunnumpurath an alcoholic; the struggles and challenges faced by him and his loved ones due to his obsessive drinking habits and how he overcomes all these obstacles, becomes the plot of the movie. The performance and dedication shown by Jayasurya in portraying the drunkard, is something that requires special applauses. It is a true inspiration to all those alcoholics out there trying to find a motive in pursuing something meaningful in life. It not only helps in inspiring the people related to alcoholism but also the wide category of entrepreneurs who are still struggling to stand on their feet. The movie gives out a beautiful message that it’s never late to start anew. It also highlights how a person’s position in a social circle shifts according to his financial status.

The movie is directed by Prajesh Sen and produced by Josekutty Madathil. The movie has Samyuktha Menon, Siddique, Baiju Santhosh, Santhosh Keezhattoor and Indran in other prominent roles. It is a must watch for all movie lovers.
