‘We should all be feminists’ is a short book written by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. It might seem like a small book but the content discussed and told is a very serious matter that should be discussed by everyone. We all should be a feminists is written based on a tedx talk delivered by the author herself. The author shares her experiences of facing gender-based discrimination and those of her friends and family in Nigeria. Not only that Other issues discussed by the author are: invisibilization, pay gap, raising girls and boys differently, culture and gender. To be frank all the issues discussed in the book are actually happening now also . The author explains this by giving out incidents that actually happend to her or anyone she knows. Through this book she tries to change the idea of typical feminism. In short she is breaking all the stereotypes. Another aspect Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie focuses on in this personal essay is the usage of the term ‘feminism’. Some people oppose the idea of feminism by calling themselves ‘humanist’.
The easy and smooth language employed to narrate the author’s personal experiences makes it one of the fundamental reads for understanding feminism. The author encourages us to dream of a world that is just and that has men and women who are happier because they are true to themselves. Adiche mainly states that a woman’s main goal is not marriage , she tries to convey that she has dreams to achieve and so more.
We all should be feminists is a must read book. The author have clearly mentioned all the important problems faced by women.
