My take on the movie MIKE

I recently watched a Malayalam movie called "MIKE"and this review is based on my perspective. I chose to watch "MIKE" as it is a John Abraham production and supposed be his first production in Mollywood . Three factors make "MIKE" worth a watch. First is the performance by the lead casts Anaswara Rajan and newcomer Ranjith Sajeev. The last time I saw Anaswara Rajan on big screen was in Super Sharanya and I was disappointed with her performance. However in "MIKE" she has done a decent job and I was captivated by her performance. Based on her performance the character she portrays should leave an impression and feel on the audience. Being it his maiden movie the hero , Ranjith Sajeev's performance is praiseworthy as he has convincingly portrayed the two stages of his character. Next the director Vishnu Shivaprasad should be applauded for selecting a refreshing subject in his first film and keeping the mood of the film intact with the lead pair occupying about ninety percent of the movie. Then the next factor which elevated the feel and mood of the film is the music by Hisham Abdul Wahab ( his previous hit was Hridayam). "MIKE" has a refreshing and relevant story and can leave an impression on its viewer. Overall, its a new subject to malayalam with a nice concept and it gives a feeling of a new gen movie in the first half, the second half is moderate.

Talking about the movie altogether , I am not quite happy with the climax. For me it mismatches the main theme and creates a confusion among those who are preparing to open up among rainbow parents. One could easily negate it saying that the film wouldn't influence society but in this movie's case it would. A decision to undergo gender transition is not an impulsive decision but taken to survive in the society and for one's own liberation from years of traumas, conditions and confusions.
